Sources & method
Sources: Muuseumide Infosüsteem (MuIS), Eesti Kultuuriministeerium, metadata CC0 · EKM Digitaalkogu, Eesti Kunstimuuseum · the galleries' own online catalogues and the NOBA marketplace · Haus Galerii, Vernissage, Allee galerii, Vaal galerii and Eesti Kunsti Oksjonid auction results · harvested
Object data is the holder's, verbatim — the museum's or the gallery's; gallery asking prices are never taken. Auction results are recorded as the house published them — starting price, hammer price, sold or unsold: a record, not a valuation. English renderings of Estonian biographies and record descriptions are machine translations, unedited, and marked translated; the Estonian is the holder's text. Artist dates and biographies are tagged by source — MuIS, EKM, the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art, Wikidata where the museums gave no dates, Vaal for the auction house's catalogue where nobody else did, or ed for editorial. How an artist is described, their citizenship, birthplace and training come from Wikidata where it covers them. Decade notes and English medium terms are editorial.

Artist background
How Wikidata describes the artist — “Estonian artist”, “Baltic German painter”, “Swiss printmaker”. This is the art-historical judgement, not citizenship: Johann Köler died in 1899 and was legally a subject of the Russian Empire, but is described as Estonian. Unresolved for artists Wikidata does not cover.
Training
Where an artist trained, the movement they are placed in, or a group they belonged to, from Wikidata. Known for 757 of 3,664 artists — the Pallas school in Tartu and the academy in Tallinn are different lineages, and Ants Laikmaa's atelier taught a generation before either. Absent for artists Wikidata does not cover.
